Desert Democracy
Central Phoenix Chapter of Indivisible!
Action Tuesday is evolvingāsay hello to our new Thursday Meet & Mingle! This relaxed, welcoming gathering is for everyone: new faces, longtime volunteers, and curious neighbors alike.
Come connect, ask questions, and help shape what this space can become. Whether you're ready to dive in or just want to learn more, this is a great way to build community and deepen our shared commitment to democracy.
This month, weāre stepping up to meet a critical need! As the Trump/Republican shutdown disrupts SNAP benefits for thousands of Arizona families, Desert Democracy is hosting a food drive to support our neighbors facing hunger. Follow these steps to cancel your paid plan. Youāll revert to the free tier.
You canāt cancel directly, but you can delete your account entirely.
šµ Share your cancellation on social media. Use the hashtag #DontStreamFascism.
šµ Support artists whoāve left Spotify. Buy their music directly or stream on platforms that reflect your values.
šµ Spread the word. Talk to friends.
Spotify was built to connect artists and audiences, to amplify creativityānot authoritarianism. But today, itās doing just that. Spotify is running recruitment ads for ICE. These adsāsome calling undocumented people ādangerous illegalsāāurge listeners to āfulfill your mission to protect Americaā by joining ICE.
This isnāt just a policy misstep. Itās a betrayal of the communities that make Spotify thrive: immigrants, artists, activists, and everyday listeners who believe in dignity and justice.
Hereās what you need to know:
šø ICE ads are appearing on Spotifyās free tier and between podcasts, targeting young listeners with promises of $50,000 signing bonuses.
š¤ Spotify claims the ads donāt violate their policies, even as artists like King Gizzard, Shakira, and Zack de la Rocha pull their music in protest.
šļø The ads are part of a $30 billion DHS initiative to hire 10,000 deportation officers, with over 527,000 deportations already carried out this year.
Spotify is choosing profit over principle. When confronted, they doubled down. But weāve seen people-power work beforeājust ask Disney, which reversed course after mass cancellations last month.
Weāre not just consumersāweāre a community. And we wonāt fund fearmongering or mass deportation. Letās make it loud enough for Spotify to hear: No ads for ICE. No complicity. No more.
Youāll lose playlists and saved musicābut youāll gain your integrity.
